This past weekend, K. & I traveled to my hometown to retrieve our dragon baby from my mother's house. She was kind enough to dogsit for us while we were abroad, and because of timing, we were separated for over two weeks! Needless to say, our reunion was glorious and merited celebration. Also, my mother's birthday had just passed and K.'s big 29 is looming in the distance, so we all agreed that we should do something special—something other than hitting up over five estate sales & my favorite secret vintage spot all in one day. Although we did that, too. Obviously.
My mom has a gorgeous vintage picnic basket she's been wanting to get some use out of, so we decided to have a birthday picnic in a nearby park. At first threats of thunderstorms seemed likely to cancel our plans, but the day turned suddenly beautiful, so we hurriedly packed this delightful picnic (fresh rolls & peanut sauce; salads with brown rice, roasted sweet potato, dried cranberries, and feta; and sliced cantaloupe & plum layered with goat cheese), grabbed a blanket & headed out. I know, I know—this looks like a lot of mason jars. But I can't get over how convenient it was to prepare, transport, and devour these delicious summer treats. I think I will be doing a lot of this during the upcoming school year. You can check out our inspiration from pinterest here.
I felt like this fun, strawberry print dress was perfect picnic attire, even if strawberries weren't featured on the menu. I added this great vintage purse that I picked up at a sale earlier that day. Easy, light, & festive!
