I was originally planning to wear a new dress with a peplum detail, but as I got ready I started to feel like maybe it was too tight or just too much for this particular context. I sent an SOS to Meg so we could have a fashion emergency FaceTime sesh. I wanted to look like myself—Meg and I both have strong feelings about not toning down our femininity or femme visibility in an academic context. But I still wanted to feel comfortable. In the end, I chose this outfit instead because I felt like the loud leopard print/pink lipstick still helped me express myself, but I didn't need to worry about tugging at my clothes or pulling things down while addressing a large group.
Clothes aside, the event was great. These kinds of things can be a great reminder of why you have chosen to pursue a particular path at a particular institution. I'm so glad to be a part of my community!
