P is for Peplum & for Polka Dots

I'm pretty excited to blog about what might be my new favorite outfit. This has been a productive week for me. First, I interviewed for my first teaching position outside of my fellowship—and got the job! I also made some big decisions about reading lists for my looming orals exams, and finalized my committee. This is a big deal for me, since I spent a lot of time agonizing over "popping the question" to potential mentors. But in the end, I had a very warm response, and now I can look forward to reading lots of books with my dream team of fierce, feminist professors.

All this to say that I felt like celebrating by putting together a fun look that combined old items with more recent acquisitions. This is the result. When the peplum trend first started happening, I thought I'd never be able to join in. I immediately imagined the inevitable result of ill-fitted shirts puffing out in all of their peplum glory—right above my belly button. But I was wrong; I've actually found more than one of the right length for my frame. This one I snagged on super sale at ModCloth earlier this week.

In case you've been wondering, Griffin is wearing Petco.
