Meet K.!

A while back, you met Ali, Meg's partner (and photographer!). Now, after some degree of persuasion, K., my partner and photographer, has agreed to make his debut in our first femmepirical evidence post on butch/transmasculine style.

K.'s clippers are perhaps his greatest accessory. He's been giving himself this cut for a while now, and it's one of my favorite looks. After first receiving haircuts from one of his friends (in exchange for a six-pack) for several years, he's now begun to continue this tradition by playing barber for our friend Oliver—I was able to reap the benefit of that six-pack of Sixpoint's Sweet Action.

Getting ready for New Year's Eve

Shirt: Gap Heathered Oxford Slimfit (similar)
Jeans: Gap 1969 skinny fit in "texas crude wash"
Bowtie: thrifted
Boots: Kenneth Cole Reaction Special Invite (via 6pm.com)
Glasses: Signe (classicspecs.com)

K., a scientist by day, is also a drag king by night. Some of his more recent dapper king looks also involve a solid dress shirt & tie combo. Here, with Oliver, he's working a skinny tie & some facial hair before performing at a local bar's fundraiser.

Shirt: H&M (winter 2012)
Tie: Topman (thrifted - similar)

Oliver's shirt: H&M (fall 2012)

From our vacation in Canada last summer. Camera in hand!
K's everyday look typically consists of a solid v-neck t paired with a plaid. Which means that whenever I want to wear plaid, I need to coordinate with him in order to avoid meeting up with friends after school/work looking like twinsies. It's happened. And it's probably happened to you, too. Meg and I should devote an upcoming post to the femme difficulties of coordinating plaid privileges with your boo.

T-shirt: Gap short-sleeved v-neck
Button down: J.Crew Factory (similar)

One last nod to summer before signing off. Or maybe two. Listen, it's really cold on the east coast right now, and I need something to keep me going other than a pile of student response papers that repeatedly ask why anyone should care about literature anyway. K?

T-shirt: Gap essential v-neck t
Shorts: Gap (summer 2011)
Shoes: Sanuk Shore Leave
Glasses: Spectacular's Brown Fade (Fabulous Fanny's NYC)

After K. had top surgery two years ago (yay!), he was thrilled to finally add more tanks to his wardrobe. His favorite is this tri-blend tank from American Apparel. Here he's joined by an inflatable lion friend we acquired at a super fun Pride dance party last summer.

xoxo,
melina (& k.!)
